The next day,
we leafed frantically through the Information Brochures
desperate to escape Bates Motel.
"Sam's Lodge", "Sam's Lodge"
popped up everywhere.
Clean, new, convenient
for just 20 US
why not?
we thought.
Why not indeed.
The 5 of us squeezed into a tuk-tuk
and headed for Sam's.
The smell that crept in my nostrils as we slipped into the lobby
was reminiscent of Madras.
The receptionist was nice enough
as far as waxed, side(long) parted (over the ear) hair can go.
Our welcome drinks were to be taken
in the adjacent tailoring shop
where the Indian attendents would no doubt ply us
with every sales pitch under then sun
had we gone.
It's okay we thought,checking in,
this will turn out great.
Until we step out of the elevator and
saw the
COMMON BATHROOMS
